Why I’m Choosing Pisco Over Vodka

For years, vodka was my go-to spirit. From celebratory toasts to the occasional questionable decisions, vodka and I shared plenty of good times—and a few ugly ones. But recently, I’ve found myself drawn to something different, something with a bit more character and intrigue: pisco.

I first discovered Catan Pisco through an angel investor group, and it was love at first sip. Smooth, versatile, and delightfully refreshing, pisco offers a unique alternative to vodka that feels like a step up in sophistication. What truly sealed the deal for me, though, was the story behind Catan Pisco. It’s a Chicago-based brand, founded and run by Catalina Gaete-Bentz, the first woman to bring a pisco brand to the U.S. Supporting local ventures and women entrepreneurs is a passion of mine, so investing in Catan Pisco felt like the perfect fit.

Catalina was also a generous sponsor of the Backdrop Studio Chicago launch party on November 19th, where guests sipped on signature pisco cocktails while mingling in our new creative space. It was the perfect introduction to a spirit that’s quickly becoming a favorite for holiday entertaining and beyond.

If you’ve never tried pisco, now’s the time. From classic sours to inventive twists on your favorite vodka cocktails, pisco adds a refreshing new dimension to your bar. Give it a try—I think you’ll fall in love with it just as I have. Here’s a special gift option for your upcoming holiday celebrations. Cheers!
